Before the Cold Sets In

I still have so many flowers out, but it is going to get colder this week so things will change. One surprising thing is how many primroses are flowering this early. Will they survive the cold or will they disappear and wait until the spring? I wait to see. There are also a few daffodil stalks appearing and I wonder the same about them.

Other summer flowers will be over when it becomes cold, but have lasted a long time. The new  Aster Monch has grown enormously. I didn't plant it out until the slugs had sort of given up for the year it is still very much in flower and looks all set for next year. The Geranium Rosanne is still flowering away and the annual nasturtiums are still thriving.

Ajuga reptans, newly planted

The ajuga reptans was given to me by a friend who has it growing into the lawn in her garden. I hope to run it all along under the yew hedge.

I love the way the bergenias occasionally colour up a leaf in autumn.   They don't all turn this colour, but when they do it is spectacular.
