Camellia transnokoensis |
First of all I'd like to show off my Camellia transnokoensis. I saw this at a plant fair years ago, but it had sold out so I went back next year early and got it. It's a real treat, has small flowers, flowers early and for a long time. I love it and so do the wild bees. There are at least two varieties of wild bee that go for it and it is busy all day long.
Next I have to admit to putting a hole in the pond when it was icy and I broke the ice up with a fork before I thought about it. It's not emptying very quickly so I'm waiting to find whether it will mend itself and meanwhile filling it up every day.

Rush taking up too much of the pond
|
I have changed the rather-too-large rush (Junkus effusus) from the pond and had great difficulty untangling the root from the pretty water iris which did really well last year. I have put in a water forget-me-not instead and hope that will be more in keeping. I've covered it with a wire basket to keep the foxes and birds off.

Last year's iris and this year's water forget-me-not |
I've tried to find someone to take the rush but everybody I know in London has ponds that are too small. So it'll have to go on the compost.
