A Cold New Year

I was really pleased to have a cold new year. Many of the plants in the garden need a bit of frost to flourish. I had a tiny bit of snow which landed on a few wrapped-up things in the garden, but it was really frosty for several days which will be good for the snowdrops among other things.

I was given an old  metal robin for Christmas which is sitting  in a pot outside and which I love. It is so simple - and so like a robin.

I woke up the other frosty morning to find the fox asleep under a rose bush. She was there pretty well all day.  Foxes must have such wonderful warm coats!

Next week I intend to prune the roses. This is the best time to do it. It's easier to see what your doing when the plant is not in leaf and gets it ready for summer. There are a lot of roses so it's a big job.
