Vegetables and Things That Don't Need Watering

Courgette with wonderful flowers but they are not turning into veg

I have, as usual, grown tomatoes, aubergines  and courgettes in pots this year. As I don't have a greenhouse I have bought tomatoes that are tiny. A friend gave me some that are yellow rather than red. They taste delicious. I have two of the aubergines called Baby Black Jack which look ready to eat and I have plenty of flowers on the  courgettes but no fruit so far.

I planted many new plants this year so I have been watering madly this summer with no sign of rain soon. By next year they will have established so if we have another dry summer, most things should do OK. I have six watering cans sitting outside which I fill with water from the washing up in the morning.

In the evening, when the sun has gone, I water the plants that need it. These include all the new plants bought this year and the ones like the tree fern, the witch hazel,  the small magnolia, and, of course the pots.

In the meantime, I have been noticing which plants that have done well with no watering. These include nasturtiums, red clover, buddleja, fennel, sedum, Geranium Rosanne. I will have to make a list for what
to concentrate on  next year.

  1. I have found that my dahlias have done really well without water. = all four are in flower at the moment and next door's parking space is sprouting lots of red clover. Rom
