More Live Things

Thank goodness today it has started to rain really heavily. And it looks as though it's going to go on for several days. I am really grateful for this as my pond has a tiny hole in it which means it leaks quite badly and I have to fill it up every day. In autumn I will mend it. Meanwhile I try to keep the water in for the frogs.

There have been many more live things in the garden this year, perhaps because of the hotter weather,. perhaps because I have introduced more wild flowers.

                                                                                                                                    Comma butterfly

I have had butterflies: a comma, a red admiral,  a meadow brown. I've seen them very often this summer. Then I've had a holly blue which I've always had because there's plenty of holly in the garden and a large and a small  white which, again I've always had but there are more of them this year. I have had several more day moths than usual too. And some small flying things I can't identify.

Bees too, have been more prolific this year. I had a little nest of white tailed bumble bees in the compost and I have a very small bumble which likes the wild flowers. Honey bees have always been common in the garden. The hairy footed mining bee has been in the garden for years - it  has gone by June. Red tailed bumble bees seem to prefer the front garden for some reason.
