Feeding the Birds

The remains of the fat balls I put up recently

I put up the bird feeders the other day. I don't have them in the summer because there are plenty of things for them to eat then and they keep the garden free of pests.  It's not that cold yet but I like to get the feeders up a little early so the birds can get used to them. The fat balls have been eaten by the sparrows and the great tits. The squirrels have tried really hard to get at them too, but without much success.
One feeder of small seeds, the other of peanuts for the squirrels
I have now added a feeder of peanuts to keep the squirrels busy and one of mixed seeds for other birds. They only went up yesterday, however, and no birds have tried either of them yet.

Nasturtiums and Geranium Rosanne

There are still quite a few flowers out in the garden. The nasturtiums are flowering away, and so is the Geranium Rosanne and the Aster Monch. The osteospermum, new this year, is still flowering and so are the two small fuchsias.

Three pots of tulips, the last bulbs I will plant this year

The tulips I planted last week are protected from the squirrels by plastic netting, tucked under the pots at each end and kept in place by two full watering cans.
