Happy Easter

Fox on shed It's been raining so hard every day, it's difficult to believe this is Easter. Everything has come out at the same time and the pond is always full - a good thing, but I'd really like to see if it's truly mended. I like the fact that it had lots of frogspawn. Whether any of it will end up with tiny frogs, I have to wait and see. I doubt it somehow. The foxes go up and rest on the shed roof in the odd half hour when the sun has come out. Usually just one but occasionally two. They look as thought they are dozing, although they always keep an eye half open to see what I'm going to do. If I go out into the garden, they are gone like a flash. Anyway, have a good holiday everybody. These are my Easter Eggs this year. I didn't remember to order white ones so I've been trying to whiten the very brown ones I've got, with only half success. Still they were fun to do. Glad to be Back

The summer garden with a fox by the new pool I'm so sorry everybody, I have had a moment of forgetfulness and it's taken three months for me to get everything together again. But, although I can't remember everything, I can write the blog, so here goes. I have missed all the hot summer so here is a collection of everything that's happened in the garden. After Lawrence finished building the pond I had at least four frogs in it and I had to put a plastic net over one side to prevent the three young foxes that come into the garden every night from getting them. This has worked quite well. The other end is protected by two largeish pond plants in the middle and a difficult-to-get-to far side and so far the frogs are all still there. I planted a number of wild flowers last year which are all doing well. There is a red clover at the back which is spreading, with a bird's foot trefoil, both attracting a number of bees

Compost and Things

The garden is really wet this year. Because it's based on clay, this means the grass and a lot of the beds are waterlogged. I try not to walk on the wet lawn but it is difficult. There hasn't been much really cold weather either so the slugs and snails are EVERYwhere. I use Slug Gone wool pellets round specially vulnerable plants such as the cardoon and the bergenias which works pretty well, but has to be replenished from time to time. And I also put all slugs and snails I find in the compost where they seem quite happy to remain. There are always more though. Compost heap last autumn I make a lot of compost, not in bought plastic compost bins but in two wooden ones I had built when I first came to this garden. One is maturing while the other is being filled. I get a lot in a year, putting in lots of paper and cardboard and only not using the sort of weeds that won't break down in a year such as ivy. I clear the compost at the beginning of the year, about March, so
